Today we head out of Texas and into “The Land of Enchantment”, New Mexico, after passing through the Cadillac Ranch in Potter County. Stop off at the mid point café in Adrian Texas. With 5 states behind us and 3 ahead of us, we roar through the land of the Comanche and the Tucumcari. We stop at the Bozos Auto Garage and Museum in Santa Rosa before we head up into the high plains and altitude of Santa Fe in Central New Mexico.

Today was another big ride. First a visit to the Harley Dealership for more essential bling e.g. vest enhancers. Starting to look scary. We set off on a short ride out of town to the Cadillac Ranch which offered a number of distractions for the Silver Foxes such as spray painting, climbing & singing “Show Me The The Way To Amarillo”. Very talented this lot. Noticed that the agility is not what it once was.
We continued the ride through desolate Texas planes to the border of New Mexico. We had a foot in each camp. Thank goodness the winds have abated. A short ride and we were at the midpoint of Route 66 (1139 miles in each direction to Chicago & LA). We stopped at the cafe to eat ‘par’ (that’s pie in English). Lunch was at Kix on 66, a diner, in Tucumcari. A wander through a typical Route 66 town took us to the Blue Swallow Hotel, an iconic place. Boxy & Sarge settled into chairs and dozed.
The scenery in the Land of Enchantment now became the stuff of cowboys & Indians. Flat plains with shrubby bushes and mesas rising in the distance. The sky was bright blue with a few clouds (cirrus fibratis & cumulus nimbi observed). The roads were long and straight. Our next stop was the Hot Rod Museum, a collection of wonderful old cars.
Now the final run to Santa Fe. We put on another layer of clothes and ascended 6000 feet, winding through the hills. Rusty commented that he thought we were ‘soaring’. The landscape was beautiful. Arrived Santa Fe at 7.30 (after putting clocks back an hour). A quick change and a tired group headed for dinner on a rooftop terrace near centre of town. The day off tomorrow will be welcomed! Staying at the Chimayo Hotel – great spot. Whilst all challenges have been met, the Foxes noted that 3 in one day was OTT and reserve the right to do only one. That is all.
