Setting off from Bellinzona, we’ll head through the San Bernadino Pass in Switzerland, then the Splugen Pass crossing into Italy, and then back into Switzerland to the Majola Pass, Silvretta Alps, and then into Austria to Sölden via side trip to Kaunertal glacier. Sölden is an Alpine resort in the Ötztal Valley, in the Austrian state of Tyrol.

Daily Highlights
- San Bernadino Pass San Bernardino Pass is a high mountain pass in the Swiss Alps connecting the Hinterrhein and the Mesolcina valleys between Thusis and Bellinzona. Located in the far eastern side of the Western Alps it is not to be confused with the Great St Bernard Pass and the Little St Bernard Pass.
- Splugen Pass The Splügen Pass is a Alpine mountain pass of the Lepontine Alps. It connects the Swiss, Grisonian Thusis 5 kilometres to the north 675 metres below the pass with the Italian Chiavenna 21 kilometres to the south at the end of the Valle San Giacomo 1,789 metres below the pass.
- Majola Pass Maloja Pass is a high mountain pass in the Swiss Alps in the canton of Graubünden, linking the Engadine with the Val Bregaglia, still in Switzerland and Chiavenna in Italy. It marks the divide between the Danube and Po watersheds.
- Kaunertal Glacier–Day Motorcycle Ticket:14 Euro From Talort Feichten (1,273 m), Kaunertal glacier road takes you up to the very edge of the “perpetual ice” at 2,750 m. Master this difference in height by car, bus, motorbike or even by bike over 26 km and 29 hairpin bends. Immediately on the roadside –and clearly marked –, you will also find many stations with special surprises: viewing platforms, buildings, historic sites, freaks of nature and much more. Once you have reached the top, the sun terrace at the glacier restaurant offers unforgettable views.

After last night’s discussion about Russ’ leadership, Reception have advised that Hydro has locked himself in his room and refuses to come out unless he gets a full retraction. He says his kids have been humiliated at school. A full retraction has been offered as a loose leaf flyer at p32 of the book (6 font in 3 languages). Russ will make an appropriate statement of regret at Davos. We were finally able to get him to come out & resume his duties.
We ride to the top of the hill over Chamonix. We lean upon a man with a lovely 1975 Alpine Renault to take some photos at the castle. A great ride through a number of passes this morning on the way to Davos. Tension is high in anticipation of Russ’ address on the state of the economy & the apology to Hydro. Then we were reminded that we are not a support group so the apology was dispensed with. Russ’ address was well received but quietly no one really understood what he said. We carried on to Flüelapass for lunch. 30 degrees in the snow After lunch we took a side trip to Kaunertal, a rollicking helter skelter of a ride along the raging river & then to the top of the mountain. We stopped to take a dip in the glacial river. In the meantime, Boxy’s bike has found another hole and he requires extraction services. Russ & Tony to the rescue while Singo gets the episode on film for future embarrassing stories. Time to head for Solden. We are met by Karl at the hotel who proffers 5 shot glasses & honey/apple schnapps. Singo & Boxy sharing a room tonight cos they have something in common – snoring! Into town for a few wines by the river & a Weiner Schnitzel. Austria is a place of reserved behaviours. Clearly, Tony doesn’t get it, choosing to mount a child’s crocodile at the pub! Today was a brilliant day. We’ve discarded the heavy jackets & riding in T-shirt’s. Scenery amazing, particularly the young girls raking up the cut grass in bikinis. Sadly, their mothers were doing the same thing.
