Woke to a fine morning. Breakfast and bikes lined up for rapid departure. Where’s Mike? He is driving off down the street. WTF. He is off the reservation! We will leave a note under the rock? He finally returned saying he just went to see the town. He is in breach again (Cl 43 – no Fox will break rank). Caution issued.
We left Bluff (in the Navajo Nation, Utah) and after an hour we were at 6000ft & freezing. Arrived at Monticello. Boxy swears he saw 5 deer cross the main road as he was doing doughnuts in the Main Street. No one else saw a thing. Cold obviously getting to him. Encouraging him inside, we had our first real coffee in days. We re-fuelled and bought enough hand warmers to last winter. Then to Moab by 10am, our destination for the day (still in Utah). Time to hit a few NP’s. First attraction is ‘Island in the Sky’ in Canyonlands NP, a magnificent plateau cut out by Green River & the Upper Colorado. At 5500ft.Then onto the Uplift Dome, a crater. Very deep and caused by a meteorite. We had to walk 0.3miles (it was a very steep hill).
Back to Moab for lunch at Spoke cafe. Waitress called Dwan? Time to get out of here. Next stop was Arches NP. Delicate Arch – another walk! This is exhausting and the reason God made wheels. Now to Landscape Arch. More photos and Foxes have identified a disturbing aspect of Russ in front of the lens on a very frequent basis. He lies down on anything. We are of the view that he is using this trip to promote his modelling career given he is unemployed. We are watching closely. Back down to Balancing rock, 3,500 tonnes. A great view of snow covered Lasal Mountain .Back to the Moab hotel by 6pm.
We are in the heart of Cowboy country. In Utah you can only have a drink with your food so we have to get fat. Dinner at Eddie McStiffs. Hydro thought this was hilarious. Another early start so not a late night. An impromptu rider meeting was held over dinner. The issue was leadership of the group on the road. Hydro thanked Singo for taking responsibility to relieve him. It was resolved that anyone is permitted to take over Singo, if able. Noted that Andy did and has been welcomed to the ‘Warp Speed’ club.
