Left Bodo and heading south today. It is a fine crisp morning. The first couple of hours we are travelling through rural valleys, around lakes & over mountains. The vegetation is pine forests and lush green fields. The sheep are lying on the sides of the road, looking very dopey, a bit like us after 500kms, so gotta watch them.
Stopped at a river near Bodo to observe the maelstrom, largest tidal flow in the world. maelstromnoun1. a powerful whirlpool in the sea or a river.2 synonyms: 3 whirlpool, vortex, eddy, swirl; then we are heading high into barren alpine areas. We cross the Alpine Circle & stop for photos. It’s getting hot! Up to 26deg.
This afternoon we head back down to the rural valleys, pine trees lining the rivers. Only irritant is the roadworks & slow traffic from time to time. Ferry back to the mainland, Nesna to Levang. A group of elderly but well heeled Italians hustle us in the queue. Russ steps up and speaks to them in his best Italian. Consequently they push straight to the front! Russ has been dropped from the “Cultural Relations and Promotions (CRAP) Committee.” After disembarking, we cross an amazing steel structure and into Sandnessjoen for the night. Dinner at the hotel and watch England get beaten by Croatia. We have taken up poll position which requires those staying at the hotel to walk between us and the TV. We experimented with psychology 101. Clap those who duck in front of tv & razz those who don’t. Also a good way to work out who you’d like to hang out with! The women appear to have much better personalities than the men.
