Trip Blog
The Foxes embarked on a road trip this weekend. We assembled in the rain at Princess Street shops for a briefing and a caution to Rusty who was complaining about getting fined by the cops on the way to Turramurra for running a red light. (We are not a support group and we don’t care). The rain thankfully dried up by the time we hit the Blue Mountains, which was lucky as Hydro lead us down the secret ways he goes with his dirt bike mates through towns that we had never heard of.
After miraculously appearing at Blackheath, we had a quick coffee while Hydro invested in a wooly jumper and then on to Oberon to visit Gibbo’s mate Jim who restores steam tractors and cars. Hydro peeled off back to Sydney at this point as he had a better offer, while the rest of the group took in the picturesque landscape, valleys and turns until we reached the Taralga Pub where we enjoyed the customary light beer and pub grub.
A pleasant two hour ride got us into Braidwood where Gibbo had arranged accommodation at the Tombarra convention centre. It was a little like the setting for Dirty Dancing except instead of families there were Bikers and Bread makers. The bread makers lit a bon fire for us, and we had a pre dinner toast to Ash. Gibbo had brought his bottle of Rusty Nails, but after tasting it on previous trips we left him with the bottle for himself.
The Holden Commodores arrived to take us to dinner at Pay Dirt in town, where a raucous meal took place and Gibbo started to talk in Braille. We remonstrated that although we understood sign languages, we were not a support group and we may have to ignore him.
At the completion of a fine meal Karen & Steve took us back to the convention centre where the bread makers were waiting for us with the fire roaring and the drinks flowing. We enjoyed a few drinks and chat around the fire and were concerned but not surprised when Gibbo fell to the deck. A quick check to see that he was breathing and we continued our stories while he made a bed for himself amongst the leaves.
Sunday morning we headed into Braidwood for a coffee and catch up with Gibbo’s mate Liz (and her partner Keith Potger from the Seekers). We left Braidwood and headed for Marulan in the rain. It cleared and we headed across to Bowral for lunch and then home.
Thanks to Gibbo for organising!
Another great Fox Adventure!
