Had a sleep in this morning. No more NPs to see. Just riding today, about 250 miles to Ely. Heading west, we cross back from Utah to Nevada. We left at 10am and hit out across the country. Today we are riding to a series of Summits at 6,400ft. We descend into a series of basins which are huge (about 30 miles across) and lead us into the next mountains. The basin roads are dead set straight. It’s an amazing visual from the summits. We hit some good speeds and unwittingly passed a Sherriff who pulled Mike over. With some witty repartee he was released with another caution! What a collection he has.

The weather is cool and strong winds are ever present. We observe dramatic weather conditions with dark clouds and squalling rain above snow covered mountains off to our left. We don the wet weather gear. As far as riding goes, everyone wants to be a hero so there is a bit of overtaking going on. Russ & Andy at different times gave Singo the bird as they went past. Will have to consider some blocking strategies. Boxy on full throttle and with little petrol temporarily occupied the rear. Just as Boxy is about to run dry and perish in the basin, we hit Baker, a small town with fuel. What a relief! We get a little sleet but lucky to avoid any serious wetness. We arrived at Ely at 2pm so looks like plenty of rehydration time. We spend the afternoon in front of the hotel fire rehydrating.

Dinner tonight is a walk down the road to Racks. Singo has bailed on dinner claiming exhaustion. The twitter sphere goes wild with ridicule! Age is obviously a factor. Photos of the new Singo are circulated which have an uncanny likeness to a kitten. Last night for Andy tonight. He has had enough and is heading home. He rides from Ely to Las Vegas in the morning and home. Happy Trails Andy! Tomorrow we ride to Carson City via Hwy 50, known as ‘the loneliest road in America’. The Automobile Assn says, ‘It’s totally empty. There are no points of interest. We don’t recommend it…..unless they’re confident of their survival skills’. Sounds perfect for us!
