It wasn’t widely publicised but the Foxes Spring Tour has been and gone. Taking time to smell the roses and generally regroup, a quorum comprising Lewy, Rusty, Boxy, Gibbo, Myway Mike & Singo snuck out of Sydney early Saturday morning, before our wives knew we were gone, hoping to beat the traffic and rain. We did.
Day 1 (Sydney to Canowindra) was a lengthy ride. We were made to wait until Goulburn for our first coffee of the day. Accordingly the trip down the expressway was eratic. The route for this trip proved to be a surprise to everyone, including the organiser, and at Goulburn we had to resort to Google Maps trying to decide whether we turned left, right or did a u-turn at the end of the road.
We rode HARD and paid scant attention to the lovely historical towns of Crookwell and Cowra. Gibbo yelled “I love Crookwell” as we rode straight through at pace. We had lunch at the pub in Cowra and then onto Canowindra. We checked into Eddys (a former Convent School) and headed to the Royal Hotel for rehydration (Ben Hall, the bushranger, held this pub up in 1863). We walked straight into a tsunami of children stalking the streets looking for Halloween lollies. But there was no one around. The pub was empty. We learned that 2 weddings and a 21st will do that to Canowindra so the town was ours for the night. Dinner was at the Old Vic Inn and again we had it to ourselves except for one woman who obviously wasn’t invited to any of the gigs. A few drinks tonight back at Eddys.
Day 2 commenced with an 8am departure (well it would’ve been if Russ had got up). We left about 8.30 and headed to Bathurst for Breakfast at the Paragon Cafe. Back roads to Lithgow and the lush country side was awesome. We had a coffee at Mt Tomah and then the run down the Bells Line of Road and home.
About 870kms for the weekend. Thanks to Lewy for organising, It was another great Fox adventure.
