Left Carson City and rode out past the magnificent Lake Tahoe (the largest Alpine Lake in Nth America). Rode straight into some roadworks and a very long wait. Turned back to the Lake for breakfast -the old post office café. We travelled through the Sierra Nevada ranges – winding roads, fir trees, snowcapped mountains. Hwy 49 is simply the best bike ride running beside a pristine trout stream. Stopped at Sierra City, population 225. Then Downieville population 325 both beautiful rustic old towns with wood panel buildings. Out of the mountains, We then headed for Clearlake through farming lands, rice farming in a drought??Went to the lake at Clearlake for a beer about 4.30 before heading to the hotel to check in. The hotel had locked all the grog up (in anticipation of us??) so we headed over to the Mexican for dinner. Russ & Hydro lasted to the end…..again! Nothin much happening in Clearlake.
