Only one road today, Hwy 50 West all the way to Carson City!

Left Ely at a luxurious 9am. Cool but clear conditions. We are on Hwy 50 (the loneliest road in America) all day. Much has been written about this road so not quite sure what to expect. Off we go with full tanks. First stop for the day is Eureka, 80 miles on. The scenery is more of yesterday. Summits, basins, green bushy vegetation and rain always threatening. Unbelievably, the road winds between the rain squalls which are sitting over the snow capped mountains. Boxy led us off the road into quicksand for a quick change into wet gear at one stage! Eureka is a mid-19th century silver mining town. We have a coffee & soup in a western bar and then up to the working courthouse for a look. We walk straight into the open Court Room and pretend we are playing Boston Legal. Judge Box hands down a judgement that Singo’s reporting in this blog is slanted in his favour. Singo fronts the press and states, “of course, I’m not an idiot!”
Next stop is Austin, another 70 miles on. Time for lunch. From here we hit out for Carson City like men possessed (ghost riders in the sky). The rain squalls were threatening and sometimes getting us. Mike was in and out of his multi coloured jumpsuit more times than Katy Perry and Singo produced the yellow raincoat he kept from kindergarten. We looked like really tough bikies! Bikies going the other way stopped responding to our signaling. Back to black! We passed a sign requesting that we report any shooting from the highway. We couldn’t see the number cos it was shot to pieces. We miraculously survived Hwy 50 arriving into Carson City about 5pm. After a big day in the saddle, we settled into a few wines at the bar before moving on to the local steakhouse which is at the back of the casino. But it is magnificent fine dining. The Foxes are in good form and the meal is great. Red wine of choice is Lido Bay. Boxy issues instructions to the staff on how to make an Affigato. I think we are starting to celebrate the finish line!
Note: it has been reported that some may be concerned that Boxy may be treated unfairly in this blog. We don’t care cos we are not a support group.
