Sisteron – Vecors – Aix Les Bains
Sleep in today as it’s a short ride. Some of us suffering the effects of going hard for Mikes birthday. We were going to walk up the hill to check out the Citidel, but yeah/nah, you see one citidel you’ve seen them all.
Easy ride down to Claps and then a great climb up to Col de Rosset, which they say is the door to the Vecors and the pass that separates the northern and Southern Alps. We didn’t have time to make the observation, we rode straight into a thunder storm at the top of the pass. A bit like Ben Franklin and his kite it was Hydro with his go pro who went into the beast to get a picture. That didn’t take long and we coasted just in front of the storm into our family run eco hotel. Great home made dinner from our hosts and then an early night.
Got up early for our last day. We did about ever pass around the Vercour valley including the evil sounding Col de la Machine! A spectacular balcony road. We then rode up and down the mountains surrounding Grenoble and took in the view from 3 different perspectives. Dropped in on Hydros friend for tea net Col de Coq, and then down to Aix Les Bains where we handed back our bikes and reacquainted ourselves with Boxy who had gone ahead of us and had been in the spa town for the previous day.
We are all scattering tomorrow morning all over the world, but reflected on what a great trip this one was over dinner. It was a pity about Boxy bruising his leg late in the tour, but he has soldiered on, even to the extent of having his bike picked up from the hotel for him. He said Trudy said “Surely they can do that for you”, and we said but Shirley does everything for you Boxy!
Here ends another Fox adventure. Thanks to Steve (Hydro) McGeorge for his leadership, wine picking and gregarious dinner time repartee! See you next time.
