Briefing getting shorter. “U guys know where ur going? Good. See u tonight.” Whilst planning our stops, Boxy is reminding everyone he has plenty left in the can & can go all night (if there was a night). This is in stark contrast to his previous effort in the US when he was the first one out of gas. Another Fox debacle as we leave the hotel this morning. Lewy has dismantled his Go Pro during the briefing & has parts everywhere & a glum look on his face; Gibbo has charged off to the Pharmacy & then finally, as we prepare to leave, Hydro is out of the blocks, tosses a quick right turn & everyone lost again .After regaining our composure, we detoured to see Adolf Hitlers canon from WW11. It was closed. Other than nature, they don’t do attractions well in Norway.
Gibbo very disappointed as he wanted to recreate “Turn Back Time” (was prepared with stockings & bodice). Dare I say we were very grateful. Rode off across the top of Norway, overtaking, stopping, overtaking the same vehicles again. A bit messy this morning. We left in hot weather but it’s now turned again. At Melbu…..we turned left & drove straight into the mouth of a ferry. Was this in the plan? Pork Polse (hot dog) for lunch on board. We did a 25 minute trip to “Skull Island”. It was the most evil looking place. Huge dark rock towering above thick floating cloud. It looked like we had been brought here to die. We rode for 50kms around this deserted island, through a village called ‘Dunnfor’, not a good omen, until behold, an oasis, Svolvaer. You won’t believe who’s there…..yep Lizi. There is a local town market, jumpers being the specialty. Lewy does a selfie & sends to Janelle for approval. (30kms later after arriving at our Hotel, Lewy remounts & drives back to buy the jumper. The approval had finally come through!)Coffee & patches for our vests & we head off to our Hotel in Henningsvaer. The road around this island, one of the Lofoten Islands, is very picturesque. Thousands of rocks lying off the coast. The low hanging cloud and streaks of sunlight give a mystical look. We feel like we are at the top of the world (or in Jurassic Park). Our hotel is situated on the water. Time for a G&T!! Hours to fill in so lots of stories & joking. We wander the town before dinner. It’s a quaint little seaside village. Wonderful hotel and nice dinner. Domenico has embraced our Facebook page.
ONCE IN A HUNDRED YEAR EVENT: We can’t believe it but the Northern Lights appeared for our benefit tonight. We are blessed! This just doesn’t happen!
