Marrakech Rest Day – 12 May 2023

Met in the lobby at 9am for taxi to the Medina. A tour of the Medina for 2.5 hours. Ishmael. Our progress is somewhat hampered by scooters flying past us in lanes 3 ft wide. If its not scooters its donkeys, trolleys.

Boxy has taken over tour leader duties from D&H. Has immediately set out to book a front row, rooftop table on the main square at L’Addresse for dinner tonight. He has secured our table with 200MAD. Singo has acquired an official Moroccan Football jumper. Now running around the square heading the into the back of the net.

Coffee on the Square to contemplate next moves. The words “Rock the Kasbah” come to mind so off we go…..to the Kasbah. It is a fortress. Then we have lunch at ‘Kasbah Cafe’ on the rooftop. Perfect day. 28degs and light breeze. Very .

A lazy afternoon at the hotel before heading back to the Medina for dinner.

After causing a dispute between competing taxis, we have secured a five seater & headed to the Square. Boxy, in the front seat, has given up on the French language and has commenced a demonstrative form of sign language. The relationship is becoming very friendly. Lots of oohs, aaahs & agreement.

We anticipate a long night of laughs, drinks, music and an outlook over the Square as the sun declines. Unfortunately, the staff don’t acknowledge our reservation. They then apologise that they do not serve alcohol! There is deathly silence and a blank look on everyone’s face. Ok, a different sort of night. We do end up securing a table with a good view of the Square. Will they remember receiving the deposit?

Oh dear, Briwat on Boxy’s linen shirt. Beef Tagine with apricots & prunes is good. Then a man in colourful clothes starts dancing and flinging a cape around with lights on it. He seems to get in the way of the serving staff and the owner gives him the word.

After several bottles of water its time to move on. We push through the Square and into taxis back to the Hotel
