The sudden realisation hit us that today is our final full day of riding. The last 14 days is a blur. We mounted up and rode thru the desert. It is a mild day with blue skies. We refuelled & stopped for a photo of the Route 66 sign painted on the road and ended up sitting in an armchair in the middle of the road.
Next stop was Amboy, a town of 20 people, which was recently acquired on eBay for $425,000. It has a petrol station, hotel and post office. Not significant, it was just a break. The final stop today was Elmer’s Bottle Farm. He is an eccentric little man who built a forest of metal trees covered in bottles. Interestingly, many hummingbirds were feeding. A lot of us have never seen one before.
Arrived Victorville at 5.30. Sat with Bear to review all the places we have been over last 14 days. Dinner at the hotel tonight.
Blogs on Victorville note that the best thing about this place is the sign saying, “Thankyou for visiting”.
