Today we take the “Squaw Valley” route, rather than the main highways which is a combination of smaller roads passing Bass Lake, through North Fork, Tollhouse and Squaw Valley. From there we ride into the National Park and the Giant Forest and exit at Three Rivers and then a long straight ride into Bakersfield.

Daily Highlights
- Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park
- Giant Forest – Starts just inside the National Park
- General Sherman Tree – This is the single largest living thing on earth, named after a civil war leader. Is around 2,500 years old and 84 metres high.

Rider meeting at 8.30 out front of the Dirty Donkey with a wolf dog. Important to keep Hydro pumped! Blue skies and forecast temperature of 20deg.Destination Bakersfield. We embarked on the Squaw valley route, aka Singo’s route – small curvy roads past lakes and into the mountains . Drive is magnificent. It is a complicated route but Hydro’s technology stands up to the test. Next stop Kings Canyon and Sequoia NP, the home of the redwoods. Lunch at a Wuksachi lodge in the mountains. CEO, Russ, decided to throw down his bike in disgust at its shit turning circle. He was heard to say, “it’s very heavy”. The Japanese tourists watching were intrigued to see how Aussies park their bikes!
We are in Full dress uniform now for the cold heights. We are riding at the height of Kosciusko. We stopped at the General Sherman Tree. 2,200 years old and biggest girth in world (Hydro reckons he gives it a run for his money). It is part of giant forest. Too much frolicking in the forest has left us short of time. It’s time to head for our hotel, so we have to ride (hard!).We are driving through narrow roads with monstrous Redwood trees by the road. They are awesome. Then we embarked on the descent from 7000ft amongst amazing views and lots of tight turns (which we would not have done very well a few years back). We then settled on to the freeway to Bakersfield through orange orchards which deteriorated into oil pumps and barren land. A diverse country no doubt. Arrived at our hotel at 7.30.Beer & Dinner at the rib house next door to the hotel.
