About to leave Sandnessjoen but Gibbo thrown into a panic. Pulling the van apart looking for his wallet. Oh look, it’s in my backpack. A few too many G&T’s last night perhaps? Our first stop is an old mediaeval church at Alsten & a particularly beautiful polished granite wall. “Robbo” having a great time with the boys.Next stop is Brønnøysund where we set out to conquer the ‘hole in the mountain’. In full riding gear we set off up the mountain. Not long before the winging starts. We didn’t sign up for this! Hydro loses his phone which is returned by a hiker. Ultimately, Russ, Mike & Singo complete the entire 6km route. We head south to a series of ferry rides to get us back to the main land. Everybody very industrious tying down their bikes on the ferry……except Russ & Singo who are appealing for help. How do these things work? How could we have missed such a basic education? We have other skills!! Upstairs over a coffee, discussion turned to arrival into Trondheim tomorrow. Singo noted that Jane was in Trondheim today & suggested he might leave early tomorrow. There was a heavy silence. Foxes reached for their copies of the Constitution. Boxy suggested he wasn’t really proposing a break from the group (?) and that he should withdraw the comment to avoid confusion. Faced with a caution, or worse, expulsion, Singo withdraws unequivocally. Everything now back to normal.
Mike is on the phone to Miselle….AGAIN. As at 3pm we have only travelled about 100kms on the bike. Having tasted the healthy delights of Polse (Norwegian Hotdog) we now disembark our final ferry at Holm. The next 2 hours to Overhalla are extraordinary. Long winding roads, immaculately smooth, running beside a small river on one side and mountains on the other. Some serious cornering happening here. BMW’s are outperforming the Ducati’s. Arrive at Overhalla Hotel & straight to the bar which is full of sub-Arctic menagerie. Having lots of fun. A wonderful dinner & wine selection at the Hotel tonight. Robbo has crashed so the boys move outside for Cuban Cigars & Red Wine and a few more laughs.
