Today we head south, down to Albuquerque and “old town” for some more sights and sounds of the old west. We cross the Rio Grande and head west – out into the open country and the hues of the Navajo wilderness. Grants and the continental divide lead us into the railroad town and old Indian stronghold of Gallup.

Back on the bikes today. Let’s Ride! Definitely when the Foxes are at their best! Weather is mild and we ride through more scenic country (imagining we are on horses in a western movie rather than bikes). First stop was a quaint little shop in a little town called Madrid. This was Maggie’s diner in the movie ‘Wild Hogs’. More patches, t-shirts.
Lunch was at the Church Street Cafe in Albuquerque then onwards to the Continental Divide (?) for more photos of cowboy country. We rode on beside the red hills to our destination, Gallup. Two bikes from a competing tour crashed on the hills and head scans and stitches required. We are grateful for the extreme professionalism of Bear. We are well organised and disciplined.
The El Rancho hotel at Gallup is legendary, literally. It is original and was where all the western movie stars stayed, John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart (room 213). It is a knockout. Dinner tonight in the hotel. Why would we go anywhere else!
