Moffat to Harrowgate – 22 May 2024 (281kms)

“A harrowing ride to Harrogate!”

B roads all the way to Langholm for coffee. Narrow, potty. The rain wear is on but none yet.

Tony not showing regards for preplanned route. He’s throwing us all out. Apparently all our satnavs have different routes so when the question goes out, “which way?”, everybody points in a different direction.

Then it hit. Continual rain for the rest of the day. It is a real slog as we cover the route, on back roads, very slowly. We’re talking 1st & 2nd gear for a lot of it. The Yorkshire Dales are magnificent but we don’t get to fully appreciate them through rain effected visors.

We finally arrive at the White Hart Hotel in Harrogate, absolutely drenched. The Hotel is a cracker. After a hot shower, we are in exhausted but relaxed mode. Drinks and then dinner in the fine dining restaurant. Very cathartic. The toll is starting to kick in.

I just recall a funny moment at the end of the night.

Waiter: Would you like the bill!

Hydro: Oh no thanks, that must be an English thing?
