The Prologue – The Guildford 6
The excitement was palpable. Hydro packed himself in cotton wool for the flight to London. As usual he was carrying injuries before a major tour, but this one meant trading the BMW Bike for a Mini Convertible. When asked if he was upset about that he responded; Im more than happy with a Mini. It means I don’t have the pressure of leading you gooses around Scotland and I can have the heater on! He rendezvoud with Tony on the overpass to the Terminal 3 Parking station (a la The Bourne Identity) at Heathrow. Despite them being the most tactile of the group there was no hugging due to said injuries and the fact they had only seen each other 2 days before in Sydney. Arrived at Guildford 30 mins later. Met by Pete and Janelle soon after. On the discovery that Pete had a spouse with him, Janelle was sworn in as a temporary member of the Foxes on the condition that she could not record or video any Fox activity. Jet lagged but Hungry The Guildford 4 pushed on to dinner and went to turn in for an early night before they stumbled on the a Caberet club. It was sheer genius to have just sworn in Janelle as a member as otherwise there is no way the others would have obtained entry. There ensued dancing, laughter, drinks, tears, expressions of love and devotion, drinks and entertainment, before returning to the Mandolay. Pete and Tony walked twice the distance home by walking two sides of a triangle between lamp posts.
Russ arrived the next morning to hear sketchy stories about some Caberet club. Enough of this; Russ, Tony and Steve hoofed it to a quick lunch on the river at Wisley which took eight hours to complete and a new appreciation of Chablis, while Pete and Janelle met up with the London Foxes for some ABBA activity.
Sunday was activity central. The Guildford 5 were were all a quiver as Boxy was about to make an appearance in the countryside. He arrived and the group met by the river for lunch. Boxy was particularly interested that his fellow travellers had been upgraded to super suite status and on his return used the Box name to do the same.
Hilarious night at the Spanish Tapas Bar, and we have to give thanks to Claudia our waitress for a) putting up with us and b) encouraging us.
We haven’t even started riding and we are exhausted.
