Scotland 2024

Meikelour to Inverness – 15 May 2024 (222kms)

Its a misty & overcast morning but the weather people tell us that the only dry part today is northern Scotland which happens to be our destination.

The picturesque riding starts almost immediately when we enter the Cairnsgorm National Park. Long & winding roads stretch out before us through the Glenshee Valley. This is riding heaven. Plenty of curving practice – the thruster or the full immersion method.

We stop at Braemar for a coffee. A wonderful highland village – barren but lush.

The ride continues through the valley. The blue sky is a huge bonus. We stop at the Watchers for a break & visage of the wider valley.

We rode through the car park at Balmoral and approached the front gate on bikes hoping for a chat with Charlie. Like his son we were snubbed.

Stop at Tomintoul for lunch at the Clockhouse Restaurant.

The great riding continued after lunch & we headed to Inverness. We rode the malt whisky trail sighting the signs to Glenfiddich. Our final stop was the Battlefields of Culloden. We contemplate the futility of military strategy in the 1700’s & the loss of life for the benefit of some puncy wannabe.

Arrive at the Glenmoriston Hotel on the River Ness & settle into some beer garden beers. Ben (our service man) sees Russ struggling with his glasses & brings out the Mr Muscle.

Dinner at the Hotel restaurant. Discussion around the use of “How good was that! About 11 goods I reckon”. It’s now a part of the Fox lexicon. It was another big & raucous evening.
