There was a buzz of excitement/anxiousness as the newly formed Silver Foxes were to embark on their first long distance ride to join the thousands of other participating in the Seven Walton Charity Run. This required intricate planning as we were going to be riding SOFT.
Singo and Russ were worried what riding 500km in a day would do to their fragile bodies, so decided to leave a day early and spend a night in Canberra. The other Foxes scoffed a muttered to words Harden up Princesses but not loud enough for them to hear as they knew that manoeuvre could back fire.
The contingent of Ash, Mike, Pete and Steve left on Friday and Gibbo came later with his mates on the big bikes.

Given Russ and Singo were riding from Canberra they arrived at Thredbo quite refreshed before lunch; so after they rearranged everyones rooms to suit themselves they hit the road to Khancoban where they took various pictures in male model mode. After a quick turn around at the Snowy Hydro plant they arrived back at the Lodge to see everyone had arrived. It was a joyous reunion as everyone managed to get down there unscathed.
Russ was concerned when Gibbos mate Tim said to him, Not a bad effort to get down here on a one pot machine , he would have been offended if he knew what he was talking about.
Lots of laughs over dinner with the highlights being Singo displaying his artful shots form the shoot taken in the paddocks. Ash thought the whole thing was a bit “fruity” . Then the conversation started getting a bit technical when Steve started taking us through the machinations of the Hydro Scheme
.”.Is that the time..How bout those Swannies eh” was the cry, followed by Well we know what your biker name is now, and that was the origin of HYDRO. A few thousand drinks and many laughs later it was time for bed.
Up early as we had a big day, Down to breakfast at 7.30. Hydro had already done his warmup. 100kms to Kancobahn and back, just to make sure he wasn’t talking shit about the Hydro scheme the night before. We were pumped, we had our maps and hit the road. First stop Charlottes pass to get our professional Biker shots, then a quick coffee break before heading up to Dalgetty. Gibbo and the newly named Hydro showed their extensive skills by overtaking the group at ease.
A quick rest a mingling session with other riders and we were off again to Eucumbene dam. Big picture op. Singo was in charge of framing the shots which were many and varied. Time to try out the big bikes with Sarge and Mike taking the challenge. It was then on the gumball rally home. Gibbo streaked ahead on his silver Harley….but wait for it Singo was on his tail pushing those needles on the Kawasaki 500. Russ was struggling on full throttle with the whole group over taking. What a blast!
A quick regroup in the ski tube car park and then the slow ride into Thredbo. This proved as much of a challenge as riding fast for many of us. High throttle, riding clutch, foot beak on and stay uptoo many things to think about. Another amusing dinner where the drinks were flowing with a recollection of the day.
The next day saw Singo, Russ and Mike head to the coast via Brown Mountain, while the rest of the group pushed onto Sydney via the direct route.
